How to create your Anthropic account and choose the right plan before installing Claude Code.

Sign Up

  1. Go to claude.ai
  2. Click Sign up and register with your email address (or Google/SSO if available)
  3. Verify your email and complete onboarding

That’s it — you now have a Claude account with Free tier access.

Pro $20/month Regular use — higher message limits, priority access
Max $100/month or $200/month Heavy daily use, Claude Code, extended thinking, highest limits
Team $30/user/month Organisations — shared billing, admin controls, team management

Which plan should you pick?

  • Free — Fine for evaluation. You’ll hit message limits quickly during real work.
  • Pro — Good for occasional Claude Code use or web-only workflows.
  • Max — Recommended for Claude Code users. The higher token limits and extended thinking make a real difference during multi-file sessions, debugging, and multi-agent workflows. The $200/month tier adds even higher limits for power users.
  • Team — The right choice when rolling out Claude Code across a team. Centralised billing and admin controls simplify management.

After Signing Up

Once you have an active plan:

  1. Install Claude Code — See Getting Started or Step 1: Installation
  2. Authenticate — Run claude in your terminal and follow the login prompt
  3. Verify — Run claude --version to confirm everything works
